Rooney Mara And Joaquin Phoenix At The Berlinale International Film Festival

Actress Rooney Mara and her fiancé, actor Joaquin Phoenix, are expecting their second child. The news was revealed on Friday, February 16, at the premiere of Mara’s new film *La Cocina* during the Berlinale International Film Festival. Mara was seen on the red carpet wearing a strapless black dress that accentuated her baby bump.

The couple’s relationship began in 2012 when they met on the set of the film *Her*, where Mara played Phoenix’s ex-wife. They remained friends for four years before starting to date. Their red carpet debut as a couple was at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017, where Phoenix won the Best Actor award for his role in *You Were Never Really Here*.

In 2019, Mara was first spotted wearing an engagement ring, although the couple never publicly disclosed the exact date of their engagement. The same year, they attended the world premiere of *Joker* at the Venice Film Festival and later the film’s premiere in Hollywood. Phoenix also won the inaugural TIFF Tribute Actor Award at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019, where he expressed his love for Mara in his acceptance speech.

The couple already shares a son named River and has been diligent about protecting their children’s privacy, raising them out of the spotlight. A source close to the couple stated that they are thrilled to expand their family and are relishing the journey of parenthood together.

Recently, the couple was seen at the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, with Mara no longer visibly pregnant, though the birth date of their second child has not been revealed.
