Russia Launches Massive Air Strike on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russia has conducted a “massive combined strike” on Ukraine‘s energy infrastructure, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The attacks, which occurred overnight, targeted various regions including Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv, and Odesa.
The strikes resulted in the deaths of at least seven people, with many more injured, including children. The impact of the attacks has been severe, causing significant damage to thermal energy plants and leading to emergency blackouts in three regions.
Ukraine’s largest private energy company has reported substantial damage to its facilities, highlighting the critical nature of the infrastructure hit. This wave of airstrikes is noted as one of the largest in nearly three months, with Russia firing over 120 missiles and drones during the assault.
The ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are part of a broader strategy by Russia to disrupt the country’s ability to provide essential services to its population, particularly as winter approaches.
