Russian Drone Strike Wounds 30 at Ukrainian Railway Station

Shostka, Ukraine – At least 30 people were injured in a Russian drone strike on a railway station in northeast Ukraine on Saturday, as confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The strike occurred at Shostka station in the Sumy region, where both train staff and passengers were present at the time. Zelensky reported on social media platform X that emergency services swiftly arrived to assist those injured and that details about the victims were still being gathered.
In a video shared by Zelensky, a damaged train carriage can be seen engulfed in flames, with twisted metal and shattered windows visible. “So far, we know of at least 30 victims,” he stated, describing the attack as “savage.”
Zelensky condemned the assault, asserting, “The Russians could not have been unaware that they were targeting civilians. This is terrorism, which the world has no right to ignore.”
The president also called for more decisive action from Western nations, emphasizing the need to turn strong statements into concrete steps: “We’ve heard resolute statements from Europe and America – and it’s high time to turn them all into reality.”
This latest strike continues a pattern of attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure by Russian forces since their invasion began in February 2022. The site of the strike is located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the Russian border.
In related developments, a separate wave of overnight attacks by Russia on Saturday left around 50,000 households in the northern Chernigiv region without power. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military reportedly conducted an attack on a major oil refinery in Russia’s northwestern Leningrad region, aspart of an ongoing response to Russian strikes on its cities and energy infrastructure.
