Ryan Nembhard Shines Amid Struggles of Dallas Mavericks This Season
Dallas, Texas – The Dallas Mavericks are experiencing a tough season, but one bright spot has been rookie Ryan Nembhard, who has stepped up in unexpected ways. Nembhard’s performance on a two-way contract has impressed both fans and team officials.
Nembhard signed his two-way contract with the Mavericks after going undrafted. Initially, fans expected him to spend most of the season developing in the G League. However, he quickly gained the trust of head coach Jason Kidd with his strong play on the court.
While the Mavericks signed D'Angelo Russell to help fill the gap left by Kyrie Irving, Russell’s recent struggles have opened the door for Nembhard. After a few games, Russell’s role diminished, allowing the rookie to shine. Nembhard made himself known during the Summer League, showcasing his passing skills and building a good rapport with teammate Cooper Flagg.
During the season, Nembhard has already appeared in seven games, including his first game against the San Antonio Spurs, where he scored eight points and recorded five assists. His shooting accuracy impressed many, as he shot 60% from the field.
The turning point for Nembhard came on Friday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, where he was given his first start. In that game, he scored 17 points while shooting 63.6% overall and 60% from the three-point line. This performance solidified his place in the lineup and showcased his potential.
Despite his success, Nembhard’s future with the Mavericks remains uncertain. Being on a two-way contract means that he can only play a maximum of 50 games before needing to be signed to a standard contract. This situation recently occurred with another player last season after his two-way contract expired.
Nembhard has proven his value to the team, but he must continue to impress as the season progresses. Fans are hopeful that the Mavericks will recognize his potential and secure his future with the club.
