Sahith Theegala Withdraws from PGA Championship Due to Neck Injury

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sahith Theegala has withdrawn from the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow due to a recurring neck injury, tournament officials announced Wednesday.
This marks Theegala’s second consecutive withdrawal. He also pulled out of the Truist Championship the previous week after struggling and finishing with an 8-over-par 78 in the third round.
Theegala, ranked No. 31 in the world, has had a challenging season with no finishes inside the top 15 among 13 starts. His best performance was a tie for 17th at the Genesis Invitational. The injury has significantly impacted his chances of securing a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, where he currently ranks 33rd in points.
Alex Smalley will replace Theegala in the PGA Championship field, which still includes 98 of the top 100 players in the world.
The PGA Championship is set to commence on Thursday, marking the second major of the year. Theegala’s absence is notable, as this is the first major he will miss since the 2022 U.S. Open.
Despite winning the 2023 Procore Championship and participating in the 2024 Presidents Cup, Theegala’s performance this season has left much to be desired.
