Shaheed Seattle Seahawks Trade News

RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have acquired wide receiver Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints, a move that comes at a crucial time as the team faces multiple injuries in its receiving corps. Shaheed’s trade was finalized on Tuesday, and he is expected to play a significant role against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

Star receiver Cooper Kupp is listed as questionable due to heel and hamstring injuries, though he was fully practicing on Friday. However, the Seahawks will likely be without three other receivers: backups Jake Bobo (calf) and Cody Young (hip) have already been ruled out, while J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (groin/shin) is doubtful.

“He’s doing great,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said about Shaheed. “Just keep attacking it. He’s done a great job so far, and the prep won’t stop until all the way through game time.”

Beyond the receiver injuries, the Seahawks also ruled out defensive tackle Alton Reed due to a wrist/thumb injury, while cornerback Jobe (concussion) and backup guard Donovan Lee (pectorals) were listed as out for the game. Tight end Lawrence Mitchell (calf) is questionable but practiced fully on Friday.

Shaheed’s transition to the Seahawks is expected to be smooth due to his previous experience with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who served in the same role with the Saints last season. “It’s pretty much the same,” Shaheed said. “There are some tweaks here and there, but I feel comfortable with the offense.”

Macdonald expressed excitement for Shaheed’s debut, noting that they have a clear plan for him despite his late arrival. “I can’t wait to see him play,” he said. “He’s done a great job preparing.”

In terms of special teams, Shaheed might also contribute to the return game, joining primary punt and kickoff returners Kenny Horton and Young. Seattle’s depth at receiver was already stressed during their previous win against the Washington Commanders, with Kupp, Bobo, and Young sidelined.

Kupp’s capability to rebound from injury has impressed his coach. “He’s an animal,” Macdonald said. “It’s great to see what he’s willing to do to get ready to play. It means a lot to him.”

Meanwhile, linebacker Malik Jones is recovering from a right knee injury and did not practice on Friday. If he is unable to play, second-year linebacker Kevin Thomas will start against the Cardinals, taking on the role of defensive signal-caller in Jones’ absence.

Despite missing practices due to a concussion, Jobe is expected to still take the field. Seattle battles against injury challenges as they prepare for their match on Sunday.
