The search for missing six-year-old Joshlin Smith has heightened in Saldanha Bay, as Western Cape police deployed their K9 Unit following reports from residents about a suspicious smell emanating from bushes in the vicinity.

More than two months have passed since Joshlin vanished from her family home in Middelpos on February 19. Her mother, Racquel “Kelly” Smith, and her boyfriend, along with two other individuals, are currently in custody and facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking related to Joshlin’s disappearance.

Despite extensive efforts, including investigations that reached as far as the UK, authorities remain determined to locate Joshlin and unravel the mystery surrounding her disappearance.

Police Commissioner Tembisile Patekile disclosed that the police are actively pursuing all leads provided by the community, acknowledging the challenges of sifting through numerous pieces of information without significant breakthroughs.

Concerns have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding Joshlin’s disappearance, with speculation of possible motives involving drug use and allegations of offers to sell the child for muthi.

David Louw, a resident of Saldanha Bay and former employer of Kelly Smith, noted substantial changes in Kelly’s behavior attributed to drug use, hinting at potential connections to methamphetamine psychosis.

Joshlin’s biological father, Jose Emke, who resides in Springbok, suspects that the disappearance may be linked to drug-related debts accrued by Kelly and her boyfriend.

The search for Joshlin Smith remains a top priority for law enforcement, with efforts ongoing in Saldanha Bay, Cape Town, to uncover the truth behind her disappearance.
