Security Guard Jailed for Plotting to Harm TV Presenter Holly Willoughby
A security guard named Gavin Plumb has been sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison for his elaborate scheme to harm popular television presenter Holly Willoughby. Plumb’s disturbing plot, which included abduction, rape, and murder plans targeting the former This Morning host, was uncovered during a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Mr. Justice Murray, during the sentencing, characterized Plumb’s intentions as particularly sadistic and brutal, noting the life-changing consequences his actions have had on both Holly Willoughby personally and professionally.
Gavin Plumb had denied charges of soliciting murder and inciting kidnap and rape, however, the evidence presented during the trial led to his conviction. The judge highlighted Plumb’s gross obesity as a notable factor in the case, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation despite the unrealistic nature of the plan.
Plumb, who stood emotionless in the dock during the sentencing, will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 15 years and 85 days in prison, taking into account the time he spent on remand.
Alison Morgan KC, the prosecutor, emphasized the profound impact of Plumb’s obsession with Holly Willoughby, revealing details of his plan to raid her home, commit violent acts, and ultimately take her life. The court was presented with chilling evidence of Plumb’s preparations, including the purchase of materials for restraining and incapacitating his victim.
Det Ch Insp Greg Wood of Essex Police described Plumb as a violent sexual predator, highlighting his history of harming women. Plumb’s online interactions in a chatroom named ‘Abduct Lovers’ ultimately led to his undoing when he shared his plans with an undercover officer posing as a member.
The FBI was alerted to Plumb’s intentions, leading to a raid on his home where authorities discovered a trove of disturbing images and materials related to Holly Willoughby. Plumb’s defense during the trial centered on denying any intent to carry out the violent acts he had discussed online.
Sasha Wass KC, the defense lawyer, portrayed Plumb as embarrassed and regretful over the public exposure of his conversations, suggesting that his fantasies were ultimately unworkable due to their impractical nature. The court also revisited Plumb’s prior convictions for attempted kidnappings, shedding light on his troubled past.
