Senator Bob Casey Concedes to Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania Senate Race
Senator Bob Casey has conceded the race for his U.S. Senate seat to Republican challenger Dave McCormick. The concession came after a highly contested election that necessitated a statewide recount due to the narrow margin of the vote totals, which fell within the one-half of 1 percent threshold required by Pennsylvania state law.
In a statement released on November 21, 2024, Senator Casey expressed his gratitude to the people of Pennsylvania and acknowledged the close nature of the race. He stated, “I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. As the first count of ballots is completed, Pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last.”.
Casey, who has been a prominent figure in Pennsylvania politics and the son of a former two-term governor, was seeking his fourth term in the Senate. This election marked his toughest reelection challenge yet. McCormick, who previously ran for the Senate in 2022 but lost in the Republican primary to Dr. Mehmet Oz, has now secured the seat.
Senator Casey also highlighted the extensive efforts made by his campaign and supporters to ensure every eligible vote was counted. He mentioned the organization of 350 staff and over a thousand volunteers across the state, who helped more than 6,000 voters resolve issues with their ballots. This work included legal battles to protect the votes of nearly a thousand eligible voters in Philadelphia.
In his statement, Casey thanked his campaign staff, supporters, and his current and past Senate staff for their dedication and service. He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Pennsylvania for the privilege of serving them for 28 consecutive years in various public offices, including as Auditor General, State Treasurer, and U.S. Senator.
