An audience member’s query at a recent taping of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” led the host to reminisce about a memorable “Weekend Update” segment from his time on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). The segment in question featured the Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage in a humorous special appearance.

During a question-and-answer session shared on “Late Night’s” social media platforms on October 16, Seth Meyers revealed one of his favorite memories from SNL. He highlighted an installment of the recurring segment “Get in the Cage,” specifically from the February 11, 2012 episode hosted by Zooey Deschanel.

“Get in the Cage” was a sketch where actor Andy Samberg impersonated Cage, usually portraying him as a frenzied character. Meyers shared that it was a significant moment when the actual Nicolas Cage agreed to participate, joining Samberg in the segment.

Meyers recalled the surprise upon discovering that Cage had not seen the sketch prior to agreeing to perform. “We went into his dressing room to go over the lines, and we realized pretty quickly that Nic Cage had never read it or seen it. So he was just finding out in real time what this portrayal of him was,” Meyers reported, capturing Cage’s reaction as composed and patient.

Despite the unexpected nature of his portrayal, Meyers described the outcome with satisfaction, noting the excitement he and Samberg felt after the preparation with Cage. “We floated down the hallway,” he said, illustrating their elation.

Meyers praised Cage’s celebrity status and unique persona, commenting on how the actor embodies the charisma and talent deserving of his renown.
