Kansas Flood Warning Heavy Rain

WICHITA, Kansas — Multiple flood advisories and flash flood warnings are in effect across central Kansas as thunderstorms bring excessive rainfall to the region. The National Weather Service has issued advisories that run until Saturday morning, warning residents of anticipated urban and small stream flooding.

As of Saturday morning, Doppler radar indicated that between 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen, particularly impacting counties like Thomas, Gove, Logan, and Wallace. Further rainfall through the morning hours is expected to exacerbate these conditions.

Areas such as Oakley, Monument, Wallace, and Russell Springs are expected to experience minor flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to be cautious, especially at night, when flooding hazards are harder to spot. The NWS continues to remind the public to ‘turn around, don’t drown’ when encountering flooded roadways.

The flash flood warnings specifically for Logan and Trego counties were established after rain rates increased significantly, leading to a rapid accumulation of standing water in urban areas, highways, and other vulnerable regions. Flash flooding is ongoing in several towns, including Russell Springs, as heavy rain persists.

In addition to potential flooding, local emergency services are urging residents to report any rising water levels or flooding incidents. This will help communities stay informed and safe during this severe weather event.

As the situation develops, further updates will be provided by the National Weather Service as they continue to monitor conditions across the affected areas.
