Severe Storms Overnight Cold Front

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A potent cold front is set to bring severe storms to the region tonight, beginning after 3 p.m. Meteorologists from WTHR predict localized flooding as heavy rain is expected through Sunday morning.

Areas of western Indiana could experience more than 2 inches of rain by Sunday evening, exacerbating risks of flooding. Strong thunderstorms today fueled by rising temperatures surpassed 80 degrees.

Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane provides a storm timeline, emphasizing that while high gusts and localized hail are possible, the primary concern is heavy rainfall. Rain is anticipated to move into eastern and northeastern Oklahoma, significantly reducing visibility but avoiding severe weather warnings for the region.

Temperatures this evening will drop from near 80 degrees to as low as the upper 40s by Sunday afternoon. Winds are expected to be strong, with gusts reaching 30-40 mph as the cold front advances.

Although the storms will begin to disperse by Sunday, scattered rain showers may persist into the afternoon. Rainfall totals are likely to exceed 0.50 inches across the area, especially in the Wabash Valley.

Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor the evolving weather conditions, especially if they have outdoor plans. WTHR meteorologists will continue to provide updates as the storms develop.
