Siouxland Weather Shifts From Unseasonably Warm To Chilly With Flurries Expected

The weather pattern in Sioux City, known for its recent stretch of unseasonably warm days, is set to take a turn as temperatures dip below average today, bringing a chill to the entire Siouxland area.

After experiencing consistently above-normal temperatures for the past 17 days, with highs soaring well above seasonal averages, the trend is shifting with today’s struggle to reach even the 40-degree mark.

This morning, residents woke up to mid to upper 20s temperatures, but with wind chills plunging into the teens across Siouxland, marking a stark change from the recent warmth.

Various factors are contributing to the chillier conditions, including the arrival of clouds that are hindering the warming process despite the eventual mostly sunny skies later in the day. Additionally, northwesterly winds are failing to usher in any significant warmth, further dampening temperature rises.

Amidst the cooling temperatures, flurries have been spotted this morning, with more expected throughout the day, possibly continuing into the afternoon hours. While gusty winds reaching up to 40 mph may persist into the afternoon, a gradual decrease is forecasted in the late evening and overnight, accompanied by mostly clear skies.

Looking ahead, tomorrow promises a return to mostly sunny conditions, with temperatures climbing back into the mid 40s to low 50s range. As Siouxland welcomes the first day of spring on Tuesday, highs are anticipated to hover around 60 degrees, offering a brief respite from the cooler weather.

However, major changes loom on the weather horizon for Siouxland, with a shift towards lower temperatures as the week progresses. Midweek may see highs in the low 50s, potentially dropping to the low 40s by the following week’s start. The likelihood of precipitation increases, with rain and snow chances emerging as early as Thursday, signaling an unsettled period extending into the upcoming weekend.
