Dartmouth Massachusetts Plane Crash

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — A small plane crashed on the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and burst into flames Monday morning, state officials reported. The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m., and Massachusetts State Police indicated that the plane might have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport.

Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) confirmed that I-195 westbound is closed at exit 19. The left lane on I-195 eastbound has also been shut down. Officials expect these closures to last several hours while emergency crews respond to the scene.

The crash unfolded during a nor’easter that brought strong winds and heavy rain to Southern New England. Despite the chaotic scene, there is currently no information regarding the identity of the pilot or any passengers, nor the nature of potential injuries resulting from the crash.

State police stated they did not receive a flight plan from the pilot before the incident. The area has been experiencing difficult weather conditions, which may have contributed to the crash. Social media images captured the wreckage engulfed in flames, with smoke rising from the wreckage.

Emergency services, including police and fire units from New Bedford and Fall River, are on the scene to manage the aftermath of the crash and assist any victims. Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as the investigation continues.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
