Smriti Irani To Give Tough Competition to Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad
Incumbent MP Rahul Gandhi from the Congress party filed his nomination papers for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala amidst a massive roadshow and public gathering on Wednesday.
Joining him were Congress stalwarts Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party leader KC Venugopal, along with prominent leaders of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Leading a roadshow through the picturesque town of Kalpetta, Gandhi’s presence was met with enthusiastic support and fanfare from the locals and party workers, reminiscent of his 2019 campaign.
Police and security officials faced a challenge managing the large crowds that had assembled to catch a glimpse of Rahul Gandhi, who flew in for the occasion.
Following the roadshow, Rahul Gandhi submitted his nomination papers to District Collector Renu Raj at 1.15 pm, surrounded by fervent UDF workers waving placards with his image.
Gandhi remarked on the importance of Wayanad to him, citing the unity of its people during times of crisis and committing to address pending issues such as night traffic bans and medical facilities if elected.
CPI‘s Annie Raj, a candidate from the Left Democratic Front (LDF), also filed her nomination papers today, emphasizing her readiness to represent the hill constituency’s concerns on a national platform.
Notably, BJP leader Smriti Irani, who secured victory in Amethi against Rahul Gandhi in 2019, is now challenging the Congress scion in the historically safe seat of Wayanad.
The upcoming polls in Kerala on April 26 will witness an intriguing battle between Gandhi, Irani, and other contenders for the coveted parliamentary positions.
