Snow and Slush Expected Overnight in Wisconsin
Madison, WI – The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that road temperatures in Wisconsin will drop low enough overnight for slush to accumulate, especially on untreated surfaces and elevated roads. Snowfall rates could reach up to 0.5 inches per hour from 9 p.m. tonight until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
This storm system may lead to slick spots, even if the total snow accumulation remains light. Outside the main snow band, a wintry mix or light snow is expected with little to no accumulation. The area of greatest concern is outlined in red on the NWS impact map, indicating a greater than 70% chance of having accumulating snow.
The communities at higher risk include Wisconsin Dells, Beaver Dam, Columbus, and parts of Dodge and Sauk counties. However, the exact path of the snow band might shift overnight, altering where the slick conditions could appear.
Drivers heading out early Tuesday should anticipate slower driving conditions and exercise caution, particularly on rural roads and elevated surfaces. Visibility could also decrease briefly during heavier snow bursts. NWS forecasters will provide updates on this developing weather event, and commuters are urged to check road conditions before starting their journeys.
In the Milwaukee metro area, impacts are expected to be lighter, although a light wintry mix may still lead to patchy slick spots.
