Social Security Payments Set for Regular Schedule in July 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This month, Social Security payments will follow their regular distribution schedule with no changes, a rare occurrence in the Social Security landscape. Approximately 68 million Americans, including around 90% of those aged 65 and older, depend on these benefits monthly.
The average Social Security payment is currently just over $1,950, benefiting retirees, disabled workers, survivors, and dependents among others. Payment dates depend on recipients’ birthdays. Individuals born on the 1st through the 10th will receive their payments on the second Wednesday of July, which is July 9. Those with birthdays from the 11th to the 20th will get theirs on the third Wednesday, July 16, while recipients born from the 21st to the 31st will receive their checks on the fourth Wednesday, July 23.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are scheduled for July 1, with individuals who receive both SSI and Social Security to expect their benefits as usual on July 3. For those concerned about missing payments, the Social Security Administration (SSA) encourages individuals to wait three mailing days before contacting them. Their national number is 1-800-772-1213, with representatives available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
In recent developments, the SSA has been revising payments for approximately 3 million beneficiaries due to new legislation eliminating certain provisions that previously limited benefits for individuals receiving pensions. Adjustments for eligible beneficiaries began in April, and all records are expected to be updated by early November 2025.
Additionally, the SSA has started to implement measures to manage overpayments, revising its policy to allow for a maximum of 50% withholding from benefits for new overpayment notices. This change is intended to ease financial hardships that some recipients may face.
As ongoing changes unfold, the SSA emphasizes the importance of monitoring communication regarding benefit adjustments and necessary updates to personal information online. Amid staffing cuts and office closures, ensuring access to support remains a priority for the agency.
