Somerville Voters to Receive Vote by Mail Applications for Upcoming Elections

Published

on

Attention all registered voters in Somerville! The City of Somerville would like to inform you that a new initiative is underway as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts begins a process to facilitate voting by mail.

In a bid to simplify the voting process, the state has started mailing out pre-addressed, postage pre-paid Vote by Mail applications to every registered voter ahead of each statewide election. This is great news for those who prefer to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes.

If you’ve already taken the step to apply for a Vote by Mail ballot for the upcoming election, rest assured that you won’t receive an extra application in the mail. This system is designed to streamline the process and to avoid sending redundant paperwork.

For voters looking to apply online, that’s an option too! You can easily submit your application through the designated online portal. This tech-friendly approach caters to the increasingly digital age, allowing for a hassle-free voting experience.

Should you wish to request a ballot for this upcoming statewide election, or even for all elections occurring this year, it’s as simple as marking your selections, signing the application, and dropping it in the mail. If printing the application poses any difficulties, don’t worry! Any signed request will work just fine.

Additionally, you can send a signed letter to your local election office if that fits your needs better. It’s about making the process as accessible as possible for everyone.

It’s important to keep in mind that your mail-in application must arrive at your local election officials’ office by 5 p.m. on the fifth business day prior to the election. Be mindful that regardless of when your application is postmarked, it must be in the local election office by that specified deadline.

The City of Somerville is keen on ensuring that all voters are well-informed ahead of the crucial 2024 Presidential Election. In the coming weeks, the Elections Office will be disseminating more information, which will include voting hours and the locations of ballot drop boxes. This information will be shared across all City communication channels, so keep an eye out!

Moreover, the City is committed to making the voting process accessible for everyone. Individuals with disabilities who require auxiliary aids or services for effective communication—such as CART (Communication Access Real-Time Translation), ASL (American Sign Language), or written materials in alternative formats—are encouraged to reach out for assistance.

If you need any reasonable modifications in policies and procedures to access the programs, activities, and meetings organized by the City of Somerville, please get in touch with Adrienne Pomeroy at 617-625-6600 x 2059.

The City has also made provisions for interpretation into various languages. If this is something you require, make sure to place your request at least seven days in advance. You can contact the SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs for assistance, or simply call 311 at 617-666-3311.
