South Africa Landscape With Wild Animals

CORONADO, Calif. — A recent traveler’s extraordinary journey through South Africa has revealed the country’s affordability, breathtaking landscapes, and incredible wildlife experiences, offering a unique perspective for potential visitors.

John, a Coronado resident, returned from a month-long trip to South Africa, describing the country as a destination that left him and his family in awe. From the stunning golf courses of George to the thrilling safaris at Shamwari Game Reserve, John detailed his experiences in a letter to Joe Kinsey.

‘We leave tonight on our flight back to the United States, and I can’t believe anybody who came to Cape Town and the south coast of this beautiful country could not be impressed,’ John wrote.

The trip highlighted South Africa’s affordability, with dinners for four, including 4 to 8 drinks, costing less than $125, including generous tips. Accommodations, including Airbnb’s and hotels, were also remarkably reasonable.

One of the trip’s highlights was a visit to the Fancourt resort in George, where John and his group played on The Links Course, a venue for the 2003 President’s Cup. ‘The cost was about $45 for each of us,’ John noted, adding that they tipped their caddy Duda the same amount for his exceptional service.

The trip also included a visit to the Shamwari Game Reserve, where the group spotted a black rhino, lions, cheetahs, and other wildlife. ‘Seeing a huge male lion, late at night, stretching out and then doing a 20-second full-throated roar was both thrilling and a bit frightening,’ John recalled.

The trip underscored South Africa’s diverse offerings, from its natural beauty to its vibrant culture. John emphasized the friendliness and hard work of the people they encountered, leaving a lasting impression.

‘South Africa is a long way from the United States, but it’s a journey worth taking,’ John concluded.
