Victor Wembanyama Preseason Game

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The San Antonio Spurs kicked off their preseason with a dominant 119-88 victory over the Guangzhou Loong Lions on October 7, 2025. In a game that resembled a college football tune-up, the Spurs showcased their depth while missing several key players.

Star rookie Victor Wembanyama made a significant impact, nearly achieving a triple-double in just 16 minutes. He finished the game with 9 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks. His performance included several highlight assists to fellow big man Luke Kornet, who scored 16 points without missing a shot, primarily from dunks.

Julian Champagnie and Keldon Johnson each contributed 16 points, combining for a strong showing on the wings. Champagnie hit 4 of 7 shots from three-point range, while Johnson was efficient, making 6 of 8 attempts from the field. Rookie Carter Bryant also shined in his debut, scoring 15 points and playing solid defense.

The Loong Lions featured several former NBA players, including Frank Kaminsky, who led all scorers with 22 points and 5 three-pointers. Victor Oladipo added 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting, but the team struggled against the Spurs’ defense.

Despite top players like De’Aaron Fox and Kelly Olynyk sitting out, the Spurs established a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and continued to pull away, scoring 74 points by halftime.

Wembanyama’s return marked his first competitive action since a blood clot injury sidelined him for several months. He expressed his excitement post-game, saying, “Life isn’t forever… I’m still going to do the things I want to do as a human.” Head coach Mitch Johnson emphasized the importance of Wembanyama playing fundamentally sound moving forward.

The Spurs will look to carry this momentum into their next game on October 11 against the Miami Heat, facing tougher NBA competition. This preseason victory sets a positive tone as San Antonio gears up for the upcoming season.
