Stacey Abrams Georgia House Campaign

Montezuma, Georgia — Georgia Democrats are intensifying their efforts to gain control of the state House with the help of two-time gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams. The party kicked off a listening tour this week, starting with a passionate campaign-style speech from Abrams, who previously served as House Minority Leader.

The Democratic Party is focused on flipping 11 seats to take control of the chamber. This effort is led by Abrams and current House Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley. They are looking beyond traditional suburban swing districts, aiming to expand their base in majority-Black areas and rural regions.

Abrams spoke in Montezuma on Thursday, highlighting the importance of grassroots engagement in places such as LaGrange and Dawson. The listening tour is designed to spotlight local concerns, with recent discussions revealing worries about zoning laws, property taxes, job opportunities, and the educational system.

During the event, Abrams emphasized the broader fight against the policies of former President Donald Trump, declaring, “What’s happening in D.C. is terrible. And it’s coming to visit us soon.” She urged attendees to remain motivated despite the challenging political landscape, stating, “It feels like we are in the wilderness again… But we’ve been here before. We’ve got out before. And we are going to do it again.”

While Abrams has not committed to a third run for governor, she remains focused on aiding Democrats in their campaigns. “The only way to reverse the carnage that we are seeing coming from Republicans is to elect Democrats who do the right thing,” she stated.

The Democratic Party will also be contending for new congressional seats and state Senate positions in the upcoming elections, making the 2026 races crucial for both parties.
