Former White House strategist Steve Bannon arrived at a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, on Monday to commence a four-month sentence for defying a congressional subpoena.

Bannon, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, was taken into custody shortly after noon ET and delivered to the federal facility in a black van. Speaking at a podium outside the penitentiary, Bannon expressed his pride in going to prison, stating: ‘It’s time for me to report to Danbury.’

Both Bannon and Peter Navarro, another former Trump aide, were convicted for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas issued by the now-defunct House Select Committee that investigated the events of January 6th, 2021. The Supreme Court denied a last-ditch effort by Bannon to avoid imprisonment while appealing his conviction in the Washington federal appeals court.

Bannon maintained that he was following his lawyers’ advice by not responding to the subpoena until lawmakers resolved Trump’s claims of executive privilege in the matter, although the courts did not permit him to argue this before the jury that decided his case.

The conservative podcaster continued to be a staunch Trump supporter and vowed to seek revenge against his political foes and incarcerate the current leadership of the Justice Department through his extreme-right podcast.

With Bannon starting his prison term, the focus will now shift to his legal battles that are set to unfold amid ongoing appeals and new criminal charges in New York related to an alleged fundraising scam for a border wall.
