The Supreme Court has set a date for hearing the plea filed by Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, challenging the Delhi Excise Policy case. The matter pertains to an alleged excise policy scam and the subsequent arrest of Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court issued a notice to the ED following Kejriwal’s petition against the Delhi High Court‘s order upholding his arrest in the case.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail following his arrest on charges of corruption and money laundering in the scrapped Delhi excise policy, moved the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court dismissed his plea earlier this month. The Supreme Court bench, composed of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, directed the ED to respond to the petition by April 24, with the hearing scheduled for the week starting April 29.

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited Arvind Kejriwal at Tihar Jail amid growing political tensions. Mann criticized the treatment meted out to Kejriwal, likening it to the capture of a major terrorist. He expressed solidarity with the AAP leader, claiming that Kejriwal’s arrest was an attempt to undermine his political campaign and impact the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The AAP General Secretary, Sandeep Pathak, highlighted Kejriwal’s concerns for the welfare schemes in Delhi during Mann’s visit. Pathak mentioned that Kejriwal prioritized information on the status of various governance initiatives, including the functioning of schools, hospitals, and electricity supply in Delhi amidst his incarceration.

As the country braces for significant political developments, the Supreme Court’s decision to hear Arvind Kejriwal’s case and the ongoing support from his political counterparts underscore the complex interplay between legal, political, and social dynamics in the realm of Indian politics. The outcome of this legal battle is anticipated to have far-reaching ramifications on the political landscape, especially as the Lok Sabha elections draw near.
