Bryan Kohberger Shopping Surveillance Video

Moscow, Idaho – Security footage from an Albertson’s supermarket captured Bryan Kohberger calmly shopping hours after he killed four University of Idaho students in November 2022. The former criminology Ph.D. student was seen using a self-checkout register, despite having committed the violent crime earlier that morning.

Police released the hours of video footage, which they would have used as evidence in court had Kohberger not pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. He entered his plea shortly before trial, leading to a resolution of the case. The videos are crucial in illustrating his movements, especially as he had turned off his phone during the murders.

On November 13, 2022, Kohberger broke into a rental home where six students were staying, fatally stabbing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. Authorities believe most of the victims were asleep when the attack began around 4 a.m. The murder weapon, a Ka-Bar knife, was never found, but a sheath was discovered near one victim’s body, containing Kohberger’s DNA.

During a news briefing in July, detectives stated they could have identified Kohberger even without the knife sheath by focusing on his vehicle. Surveillance videos chronicle his movements before and after the attack, showing him in various locations.

Prior to the murders, Kohberger had encounters with law enforcement in Moscow and nearby Pullman, Washington. These encounters were documented on police body cameras and aided in linking him to the vehicle used in the crime. Following the murder, he changed his license plates from Pennsylvania to a local registration.

As a result of his guilty plea, Kohberger is serving four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 10 years. He waived his right to appeal or seek sentence reductions as part of the plea deal.
