Sydney Roosters Players 2024

Trent Robinson, the head coach of the Sydney Roosters, is poised to lead the team through a significant transition period following the departure of several esteemed players. Despite the Roosters securing a third-place finish and boasting the best attacking statistics in the NRL, their struggle to overcome teams like Penrith and Melbourne ultimately ended their championship aspirations this season.

Among the notable departures are Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Luke Keary. Waerea-Hargreaves concluded a 15-year tenure with the Roosters in 2024, opting to continue his career in the Super League. Keary, after initially announcing his retirement, reversed his decision and has since committed to joining the Catalans Dragons in 2025. Both departures will leave a significant gap in the team’s lineup.

Star centers Joseph Manu and Joseph Suaalii have also exited the club in pursuit of opportunities in rugby union. Manu, who became a key player since his debut in 2016, will join Toyota Verblitz, while Suaalii will move to the New South Wales Waratahs.

Sitili Tupouniua, granted an early release, is set to join the Canterbury Bulldogs next season. Reflecting on the players’ contributions, Robinson expressed pride, stating, “We feel really proud about the time that they’ve had with us and it’ll be the last time they are sitting in those sheds.”

The Roosters’ list of player movements is significant. Dylan Napa has retired, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is off to Hull KR, Joseph Manu joins Toyota Verblitz, Joseph Suaalii connects with the NSW Waratahs, Luke Keary heads to Catalans Dragons, and Sitili Tupouniua transfers to the Canterbury Bulldogs. Michael Jennings remains to confirm his next move.

With Chad Townsend being their only signing so far, the veteran halfback is set to fill the No.7 jersey following Sam Walker‘s knee injury. Additionally, rugby union convert Mark Nawaqanitawase is anticipated to increase his playing role after his late arrival in the 2024 campaign.

In a positive development, the Roosters have secured the futures of key players such as Angus Crichton, Connor Watson, Daniel Tupou, and Spencer Leniu, who have all signed new contracts. The club aims to maintain its competitive edge amidst the significant changes in its roster.
