Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried Cast in Film Adaptation of ‘The Housemaid’
Lionsgate has announced an exciting new project involving a star-studded cast for a film adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, “The Housemaid.” Renowned director Paul Feig, best known for “Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor,” is set to helm this psychological thriller.
Sydney Sweeney, celebrated for her Emmy-nominated performances in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” and Amanda Seyfried, acclaimed for her Emmy-winning role in “The Dropout,” will take the lead roles. Sweeney will portray Millie, a young woman struggling to find her footing, who seizes the opportunity to work as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew. Seyfried will co-star as Nina, with the plot revealing that the family’s secretive past poses significant dangers.
“I’m thrilled to have ‘The Housemaid’ join our upcoming slate,” remarked Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “The combination of a great filmmaker, impressive cast, and a fantastic script from an acclaimed book is promising. Both Amanda and Sydney bring incredible skill and nuance to their roles.”
The film’s screenplay is adapted by Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work in television and film scriptwriting. The adaptation is expected to capture the nuanced tension and drama that the original novel delivered, as evidenced by its remarkable success on the New York Times and Amazon bestseller lists.
Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, expressed enthusiasm about the casting choices, highlighting both Sweeney and Seyfried’s ability to portray complex characters with hidden depths, essential for the film’s psychological tension. “We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, with whom we’ve collaborated on ‘A Simple Favor’ and its anticipated sequel, further developing powerful storytelling with dynamic female leads,” she noted.
Paul Feig’s Feigco Entertainment, along with Hidden Pictures‘ Todd Lieberman and Carly Kleinbart Elter, will produce the film. Additionally, Sweeney and Seyfried will serve as executive producers, alongside Alex Young and Freida McFadden. Lionsgate representatives Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley will oversee the studio’s involvement.
The bestselling novel “The Housemaid” stands as a prominent figure in current literary circles, maintaining a long-standing presence on bestseller lists and achieving a significant international readership, having been translated into 40 languages.
Producing credits extend to Laura Fischer and Alex Young, with Robert Melnik handling negotiations for the studio. The project continues to captivate audiences with the promise of transferring the book’s suspenseful narrative to the silver screen.
