Sydney Sweeney’s Horror Thriller ‘Immaculate’ to Stream on Hulu
Sydney Sweeney‘s latest horror thriller, ‘Immaculate,’ is set to hit streaming this August on Hulu.
In this chilling film, Sweeney takes on the role of Sister Cecilia, a young nun who moves from America to a convent in Italy. As she settles in, Sister Cecilia uncovers a startling secret and is left puzzled by an inexplicable pregnancy.
‘Immaculate’ will start streaming on Hulu on Friday, August 15, giving horror fans a new film to binge-watch.
This indie flick, distributed by Neon, premiered in theaters back on March 22, and was available for digital purchase on April 16.
The film made its debut at the SXSW Film Festival on March 12, before its release in over 2,300 theaters worldwide.
So far, ‘Immaculate’ has garnered about $15.7 million in the U.S. and $9.2 million overseas, totaling nearly $24.8 million globally. The movie was made with a production budget of $9 million, not including marketing costs.
Critics have given ‘Immaculate’ a 71% “fresh” rating based on 197 reviews, noting that while the film may have its flaws, Sydney Sweeney’s performance is a standout.
In contrast, the audience score for ‘Immaculate’ sits at a lower 59% based on over 250 ratings, illustrating a divide in viewer opinions.
Sweeney has had quite a busy year, appearing in the poorly received superhero film ‘Madame Web‘ earlier in 2024. She also starred in the romantic comedy ‘Anyone but You’ and has made waves in series like ‘Euphoria‘ and ‘The White Lotus.’
Additionally, Sweeney played a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino‘s ‘Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood’ and was featured in the Netflix series ‘Everything Sucks!,’ which was co-created by ‘Immaculate’ director Michael Mohan.
Interestingly, a title change for ‘Immaculate’ in Russia raised eyebrows since it was altered to ‘OMEN. IMMACULATE,’ coinciding with the release timing of another horror flick, ‘The First Omen.’
