Taylor Swift Announces New Album 'the Tortured Poets Department', Fans Speculate About References To Joe Alwyn In Tracklist

Taylor Swift surprised her fans at the 2024 Grammys by announcing the release of her highly anticipated new album. After winning the best pop vocal album award for ‘Midnights‘, the 34-year-old star revealed that her upcoming album, titled ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘, will be released on April 19.

Swift, who affectionately thanked her fans for their support, mentioned that this would be her 13th career Grammy. She also let slip that she would be sharing the cover of the album on her social media accounts backstage.

While fans eagerly await the release of new material from Swift, they couldn’t help but speculate about the possible references to her former love interest, Joe Alwyn, in the album’s title. Alwyn, who dated Swift for six years, has recently been in the news due to his relationship with Kansas City Chiefs‘ tight end, Travis Kelce.

The intriguing album title, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, seemed to draw parallels with Alwyn’s previous mention of a group chat name. In a December 2022 Variety interview with ‘Normal People‘ star Paul Mescal, Alwyn revealed that their WhatsApp group chat was called the ‘Tortured Man Club’.

Swifties were quick to connect the dots between the two titles, leading to a flurry of memes and speculation on social media. Fans shared videos and images jokingly suggesting that Alwyn was aware of the resurgence of the ‘Tortured Man Club’ chat based on Swift’s album announcement.

As fans anxiously await the release of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, it remains to be seen whether the album will indeed include references to Alwyn and their former relationship. Only time will tell as the album drops on April 19.
