Michael Foods Inc has initiated a recall affecting over 4,600 pounds of liquid egg products due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, specifically milk, that was not listed on the product labels. The U.S. Department of Agriculture‘s Food Safety and Inspection Service shared this information recently.

Within this recall, the identified items are linked to the brand Fair Meadow Foundations and were produced on June 11, 2024. These liquid eggs were distributed under the label ‘FAIR MEADOW Foundations WHOLE EGGS with CITRIC ACID’ in 32-ounce cartons with a use-by date of September 16, 2024, bearing the lot code 4162G and establishment number ‘EST. G1455’ as detailed by the FSIS.

M.G. Waldbaum Co, based in Gaylord, Minn., operating as Michael Foods Inc, was responsible for producing these liquid egg products. The company supplies a range of food products to entities such as restaurants, hotels, and healthcare facilities. The error in labeling was discovered during a routine inventory check when certain cartons of Whole Egg with Citric Acid were found to be unaccounted for.

Subsequently, there was an excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg cartons in the inventory. Upon investigation, it was determined that the unaccounted-for Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons had been mistakenly utilized in a single production run of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg, which contains milk, an allergen not declared on the former carton’s label.

This recall affected products that were sent to various states including Alabama, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, and Utah. The FSIS has expressed concerns that some of these products may still be held in institutional or restaurant refrigerators, urging establishments not to serve them to their customers.

While no adverse reactions linked to the consumption of these liquid egg products have been reported to date, consumers are advised to discard any unused items or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone seeking further information regarding this recall can contact Kristina Larsen, Director Customer Service at Michael Foods Inc, while general inquiries can be directed to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline.
