Thunderstorms Expected in D.C. Thursday Evening Commute

WASHINGTON – The D.C. region is preparing for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday evening after experiencing dry weather for several days.
According to FOX 5‘s Tucker Barnes, the morning will remain dry with temperatures reaching the mid-80s. However, a line of storms is forecasted to move in from the west, potentially impacting commuters between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The I-95 corridor is expected to experience the worst of the storms around 5 p.m., coinciding with the evening rush hour. A marginal risk for severe weather is in place, with threats including heavy rain, damaging winds, and lightning.
“Drivers should be cautious,” Barnes warned, as the storms could create slow-moving commutes due to reduced visibility and slick roads.
The storms are expected to weaken after 7 p.m. and move out of the area by 9 p.m., allowing for improved conditions overnight. A hot and dry Friday is anticipated, with highs near 90 degrees.
Looking ahead, a few pop-up storms may occur on Saturday, but cooler temperatures are expected starting Sunday and continuing into next week.
The WUSA9 Weather team advises commuters to allow extra time for travel and to prepare with rain gear if heading out later in the day.
