TORRANCE, Calif. — Toyota has announced a safety recall affecting more than 140,000 vehicles, including various models of Toyota Camry, Tacoma, and Lexus RX SUVs. The recall was issued on February 8, 2025, due to concerns over faulty rear brake hoses and potentially damaged seatbelts, which could pose safety risks to drivers and passengers.
The first part of the recall impacts approximately 106,000 Toyota Tacoma trucks manufactured between 2024 and 2025. According to Toyota, the rear brake hoses on four-wheel-drive models could be susceptible to damage from mud and debris accumulation, which may lead to brake fluid leaks and increase the risk of a crash.
The second part of the recall involves around 41,000 vehicles, including 2025 Toyota Camrys, Lexus NX, and certain Lexus RX models manufactured between 2024 and 2025. Safety officials report these vehicles may have defective second-row seatbelts, which do not meet specific strength requirements, heightening the likelihood of injury in the event of a collision.
Customers will be notified by mail regarding the recalls by early April 2025. In the meantime, affected owners are encouraged to contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331 for further information or visit the company’s website to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.
All necessary repairs for the recalled vehicles will be conducted at no cost to customers at authorized Toyota or Lexus dealers. According to a spokesperson from Toyota, “We are committed to the safety of our customers and are taking the necessary steps to correct these issues.”
It is essential for vehicle owners to stay informed about recalls, as many vehicles on the road may have open safety recalls. In the United States alone, recent statistics indicate millions of vehicles currently have unsolved safety recall issues. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) provides resources for consumers to check for recalls by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate number online.
For additional insights, car owners should utilize this opportunity to review their insurance policies, as safety recall status can impact their premiums and insurability. The average annual cost for full coverage car insurance amounts to $2,670, making it prudent to compare rates regularly. Utilizing online tools, powered by financial resources like Bankrate, can aid consumers in finding potential savings.
In a statement regarding the overall safety of their vehicles, a Toyota representative mentioned, “Monitoring and addressing recalls is essential for enhancing vehicle performance and ensuring driver safety.”
