Toyota Teases Next-Gen RAV4 Ahead of World Premiere

DETROIT, MI — Toyota has released teaser images of its new RAV4 ahead of its world premiere scheduled for May 20. The 2026 RAV4 aims to build on the success of its predecessor, which sold 475,193 units in the U.S. last year, making it the best-selling SUV in America for the eighth consecutive year.
The compact crossover saw a 9.3 percent sales increase compared to the previous year, marking a significant milestone for the popular model. While Toyota has not explicitly labeled this vehicle as the next-generation RAV4, the teaser images suggest it closely matches a prototype seen in Detroit earlier this year.
A different teaser highlights the RAV4’s versatility, showcasing it on snowy trails, winding roads, and suburban streets. Although the model name has not been officially confirmed, Toyota hinted that the redesigned RAV4 is ready for “urban streets to outdoor retreats.”
The teaser images show a slightly larger vehicle with a more upright design. Features include cleaner lines, a larger quarter window, and C-shaped headlights aligned with Toyota’s latest design trends. Rumors indicate the production of the next-gen model may shift from Canada and Japan to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, with production likely starting in 2027.
The redesigned RAV4 is expected to be available in the U.S. as early as the 2026 model year. Although Toyota has not confirmed production details, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants are anticipated, raising questions about the future of the gas-only version in the U.S.
Toyota’s new models, including the GR86 and GR Corolla, benefit from the financial success of the RAV4. A spokesperson from Toyota declined to comment on production plans during an inquiry by Motor1.
The upcoming RAV4 is also likely to face tough competition from models like the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 hybrid, as it prepares for its debut. Pricing is expected to be similar to the current hybrid version, starting in the low $30,000s.
As anticipation mounts for the official reveal, car enthusiasts and potential buyers alike are eager to see how Toyota will evolve its popular SUV.
