Three individuals lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries on Saturday night, following a devastating boat collision on Bobs Lake, located north of Kingston, Ontario. The tragic incident occurred in the Bucks Bay area of the lake, proximate to Westport and Parham, shortly after 9:30 p.m. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) provided details in an update on Sunday, stating that one vessel was characterized as an open bow fishing-style boat, while the other was described as a speedboat.

The authorities confirmed the identities of the deceased as a 21-year-old female from South Frontenac Township, a 22-year-old female from Elginburg, and a 23-year-old male also from South Frontenac. The five injured individuals, aged between 21 and 44, were swiftly transferred to a hospital in Kingston. One of the seriously injured was airlifted by Ornge Air, with the remaining individuals receiving medical evaluation at the scene by local paramedics.

The OPP spokesperson, Bill Dickson, informed CTV News Ottawa in an interview on Sunday that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision. Dickson emphasized the importance of boat safety, highlighting the significance of adhering to safety regulations and possessing the necessary equipment as per the Transport Canada guidelines. He particularly underscored the criticality of life jackets and urged boaters to not only carry them onboard but also wear them diligently.

Dickson expressed deep sympathy for the families affected by the tragic event, underscoring the importance of observing safety protocols, especially during the ongoing Boat Safety week. As the investigation progresses, the OPP continues to stress the implementation of safety measures and the essentiality of upholding marine safety rules to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
