Mickey 17 Movie Trailer

The long-awaited trailer for Bong Joon-ho‘s latest film, “Mickey 17,” has been released by Warner Bros. The film is based on the 2022 novel “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton and is highly anticipated as a follow-up to Bong’s critically acclaimed success “Parasite.” This new science fiction thriller stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, an “expendable” employee tasked with colonizing an ice planet.

In Edward Ashton’s novel, Mickey Barnes is sent on perilous missions to explore and settle this alien environment. When one iteration of Mickey dies during these dangerous missions, another duplicate version is created, equipped with most of his memories. This unique storyline explores identity and existential themes within the science fiction genre.

The film features an impressive cast including Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. “Mickey 17” is directed and written by Bong Joon-ho, who also serves as a producer through his production company Offscreen. Additional production credit goes to Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, along with Dooho Choi of Kate Street Pictures.

After several changes to its theatrical release date, Warner Bros. has now scheduled “Mickey 17” for a January 2025 release. The film was initially set for March 2024 but was postponed to accommodate an IMAX release and due to delays from recent Hollywood strikes affecting production timelines.

This project marks Bong Joon-ho’s return to filmmaking following his breakout hit “Parasite,” which not only earned an Academy Award for Best Picture but also made history as the first foreign language film to receive the honor. Bong’s previous noteworthy works include “Snowpiercer,” “Okja,” “Memories of Murder,” “The Host,” and “Mother.”

Robert Pattinson, known for his recent portrayal of Bruce Wayne in “The Batman,” and his roles in science fiction films such as Christopher Nolan‘s “Tenet” and Claire Denis’ “High Life,” stars as the film’s protagonist.

“Mickey 17” is anticipated to make its theater debut on January 31, 2025. The newly released trailer offers glimpses of the film’s intriguing narrative and visually striking scenes.
