Alina Habba U.s. Attorney Announcement

TRENTON, N.J. — President Donald Trump announced on March 24, 2025, that he has appointed his personal attorney, Alina Habba, as the interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey. This announcement came in a post on Trump’s social media platform, where he praised Habba’s work ethic and commitment to justice.

“Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both ‘Fair and Just’ for the wonderful people of New Jersey,” Trump wrote.

In response to her appointment, Habba expressed gratitude towards Trump and a strong commitment to her new responsibilities. “I am honored to serve my home state of New Jersey as Interim U.S. Attorney and I am grateful to President Trump for entrusting me with this tremendous responsibility,” Habba stated on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Just like I did during my time as President Trump’s personal attorney, I will continue to fight for truth and justice. We will end the weaponization of justice, once and for all.”

Habba succeeds John Giordano, the previous interim U.S. attorney, who has been nominated for the position of ambassador to Namibia. Giordano held the U.S. attorney role for a mere three weeks after his appointment on March 3.

Habba’s legal career includes a tenure as Trump’s attorney, where she gained notoriety for representing him in various high-profile cases, such as the lawsuit against The New York Times. Although that case was dismissed, her recent track record has been mixed. A judge dismissed a suit she filed against Hillary Clinton that accused the former presidential candidate and others of conspiracy to damage Trump’s reputation, leading to fines against both the plaintiffs.

Before aligning with Trump, Habba spent years in private practice focusing on civil and commercial litigation after graduating from Widener University Commonwealth Law School in 2011. Her professional journey expanded when she became involved with Trump through his Bedminster golf club.

During her time representing Trump, Habba has been a vocal defender of his character and legal strategies, even amidst his recent indictments. “He’s the most ethical American I know,” she asserted after Trump faced charges related to classified documents.

In announcing her appointment, Trump emphasized Habba’s resilience and dedication. “Alina has been a tireless advocate for Justice, a fierce Defender of the Rule of Law, and an invaluable Advisor to my Campaign and Transition Team,” he said.

As interim U.S. attorney, Habba will oversee federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation in New Jersey, working out of the offices in Newark, Camden, and Trenton. She is expected to supervise a staff comprising approximately 153 federal prosecutors and 104 support personnel.

Reflecting her readiness to take office, Habba concluded, “Time to make New Jersey great again! LET’S ROLL.”
