Dan Bongino Secret Service Trump Administration

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering former Secret Service agent and conservative media personality Dan Bongino to lead the U.S. Secret Service in his upcoming administration. This consideration comes in the wake of significant security challenges faced by the agency, including recent security failures and alleged assassination attempts on Trump during his campaign rallies this summer.

Bongino, who served as a Secret Service agent from 1999 to 2011, has been a vocal critic of the agency’s current leadership. He has accused former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle of “putting politics ahead of presidential protection” and called her “utterly unqualified” to lead the agency. Cheatle resigned following a security failure at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.

Bongino’s potential appointment is part of Trump’s effort to reform the Secret Service, which has faced heavy criticism for its handling of recent security incidents. Bongino’s name is on a shortlist that also includes Sean Curran, the head of Trump’s current security detail, and Robert Engel, the former head of his detail who was with Trump during the events of January 6, 2021.

Bongino has a diverse background, transitioning from law enforcement to politics and media. He ran as a Republican Senate candidate in Maryland in 2012 and later sought a congressional seat in Maryland and Florida, though he was unsuccessful in these endeavors. He has since gained prominence as a conservative commentator, hosting shows on NRATV and Fox News, and currently hosts *The Dan Bongino Show* on Rumble.

The decision to appoint Bongino or another candidate will likely hinge on balancing experience with loyalty and trust. While Bongino’s extensive experience in the Secret Service and his media prominence make him a strong candidate, figures like Curran and Engel bring direct experience managing Trump’s security detail during critical moments.
