Trump Denies Plans for Trump Tower in Syria Amid Gulf Visit

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that there are no current plans for a Trump Tower in Syria during his ongoing visit to Gulf countries. This announcement follows his meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Trump visited Saudi Arabia on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading to Qatar. During a press briefing, he remarked, “We’ll have to wait a little while until things calm down,” referring to the situation in Syria.
The president emphasized that the topic of golf and the construction of a Trump Tower in Damascus did not arise during discussions with bin Salman and al-Sharaa. Additionally, Trump indicated that the U.S. would consider lifting longstanding sanctions on Syria, although he did not elaborate on the details.
When asked about a potential deal involving his family company’s digital coins in a crypto exchange, Trump claimed, “I really don’t know anything about it, but I’m a big crypto fan.” This comment was made aboard Air Force One while en route to Qatar, where he was scheduled to visit next.
There has been speculation concerning Trump’s business interests in the region, raising concerns from critics about possible conflicts of interest. As his family has significant investments in Gulf states, including golf courses, some lawmakers have questioned the ethics of these dealings.
Trump’s administration has dismissed concerns regarding conflicts of interest, stating that he is acting in the best interests of the American public. The White House reiterated that Trump’s adult children are responsible for managing his assets.
The president is also expected to visit the United Arab Emirates following his trip to Qatar.
