Trump Hints at Possible U.S. Involvement in Iran-Israel Conflict

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump stated that it’s “possible” the United States could get involved in the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. Trump made the remarks in an interview with Rachel Scott, confirming that while the U.S. is not currently engaged, intervention may be considered in the future.
The comments follow Israel’s unprovoked military strike on Iran, which occurred on Friday. This attack targeted Iran’s primary nuclear enrichment facilities in an effort to dismantle the program. The airstrikes reportedly killed key figures including the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and several civilians.
Despite claims that Israel appealed for U.S. involvement post-strike, Trump refrained from discussing these assertions when speaking to ABC News. Earlier this week, he vetoed Israel’s proposal to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to two U.S. officials.
The Trump administration has attempted to distance itself from Israel’s operations against Iran, but these efforts are proving challenging. According to the Associated Press, U.S. officials have been in “constant contact” with Israeli leaders, including direct communication between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Efforts to finalize a diplomatic agreement between Iran and the U.S. have faced obstacles. Trump had previously given Iran 60 days to reach an agreement; however, negotiations stalled last week. Washington accused Tehran of procrastination, while Iranian officials claimed the U.S. was not genuinely addressing their nuclear rights or seriously negotiating the removal of sanctions.
Trump had reportedly advised Netanyahu to hold off on military action against Iran until all diplomatic avenues were explored.
