Donald Trump Vladimir Putin Kyiv Attack April 2025

KYIV, Ukraine — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “STOP” the missile strikes following a deadly attack on Kyiv that left at least 12 people dead and over 90 injured late Wednesday night.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his concern and stated his belief that both Russia and Ukraine desire peace. During a press briefing at the White House, he pressed for both sides to “get to the table” to negotiate an end to the conflict. “I think they’re going to get peace,” said Trump. “We can save thousands of people, and I don’t like that it takes long at all.”

As European leaders responded to the escalating violence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denounced the strikes as a violation of the ceasefire and a clear reminder of Russia’s aggressive actions. He emphasized that the ongoing war has already claimed tens of thousands of lives since it escalated in February 2022.

“Today’s attack was undoubtedly one of the most difficult,” said Zelensky. “We need more international pressure on Russia to move towards a ceasefire.” He further mentioned that Ukraine would not accept any agreements that compromised its territorial integrity, particularly concerning Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated the sentiment, branding Russia as the aggressor and calling for an unconditional ceasefire. Starmer stated, “These attacks are a human reminder of who is the aggressor here and the cost to the Ukrainian people.”

The attack on Kyiv was reportedly the deadliest strike against the city since last summer. Emergency services continue to search for victims buried under rubble, with local officials confirming that ongoing rescue operations are underway.

As tensions mount, Russian officials have communicated their intent to escalate operations in response to perceived threats from Ukraine and its Western allies. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to raise Ukraine’s right to its own defense as part of upcoming peace talks with Russia.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for renewed diplomatic efforts to negotiate a lasting ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis affecting civilians in Ukraine.
