Turbulence on Qatar Airways Flight Leaves 12 Injured on Route to Dublin
Twelve individuals sustained injuries when a Qatar Airways flight en route from Doha to Dublin encountered turbulence on Sunday, the Dublin Airport authorities confirmed. Among those affected, eight required hospitalization.
The incident, involving flight QR017 operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, concluded with a safe landing just before 1 p.m. local time as scheduled. Emergency response teams, including airport police and the fire and rescue department, were on standby as the aircraft touched down.
Reports indicated that six passengers and six crew members suffered injuries after the airplane experienced turbulence while flying over Turkey.
Upon arrival, all passengers received medical evaluations on board, with eight individuals subsequently transported to hospitals for further treatment.
Recounting the turbulent experience, passenger Paul Mocc described witnesses seeing people hitting the roof, with food and beverages being tossed around. Another passenger, Emma Rose Power, mentioned observing flight attendants with injuries, including scratches and a person with a sling on their arm.
In a statement, Qatar Airways acknowledged that a small number of individuals on board sustained minor injuries during the flight and are currently under medical care. The airline assured that an internal probe into the matter is underway.
This incident follows a recent event where a British man passed away from a suspected heart attack and numerous passengers were injured due to severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines flight departing from London.
The aviation community continues to emphasize the importance of safety measures and preparedness to handle unexpected in-flight situations like turbulence occurrences.
