Mumbai Train Accident Protest

Mumbai, India – Two people died and three others were injured after being hit by a suburban train near Sandhurst Road railway station on Thursday, November 6, 2025, around 7 p.m., according to local officials.

The victims were reportedly walking on the tracks between Sandhurst Road and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) when the incident occurred. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials stated that all injured were taken to J J Hospital, where they received treatment.

The deceased were identified as Heally Mohmaya, 19, and an unidentified individual. The injured have been identified as Yafiza Chogale, 62; Khushbu Mohmaya, 45; and Kaif Choghale, 22.

Earlier that day, Central Railway employees staged a protest that halted suburban train operations at CSMT, lasting nearly an hour. This protest was in response to an FIR filed against two engineers involved in a previous accident in June, which resulted in four fatalities.

According to Central Railway spokesperson Swapnil Nila, the service disruption occurred between 5:50 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. after the protest caused significant overcrowding in the station, leading to chaos as commuters sought alternate travel options.

Witnesses noted that the group of victims had stepped off a slow local train and onto the tracks when they were struck by a fast-moving train. MR. Nila commented on the dangers of walking on the tracks, stating, “The speed of the train is fast, and the reaction time to stop immediately is not possible.”

Investigations into the accident are ongoing, and authorities are assessing how the protest might have contributed to the tragedy.
