Tyrel Dodson’s No. 25 Jersey to Be Retired at Centennial High

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Tyrel Dodson, a graduate of Centennial High School, will have his No. 25 jersey retired during a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. The event will take place during a Week 5 football game against visiting Antioch.
Dodson is currently a linebacker for the Miami Dolphins and has enjoyed a successful career in the NFL. He is in his sixth season and has led the Dolphins in tackles with 22. This past season, with the Buffalo Bills, he recorded 74 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
<p"I’m humbled by it,” Dodson said, expressing his gratitude towards the Franklin community before a primetime game. “It’s just so surreal. I’m grateful and thankful for the Franklin community.”
Dodson rose to fame while playing for Centennial, leading the Cougars to the Class 5A semifinals for the first time and winning the Mr. Football award in 2015. At Texas A&M, he played for three seasons before entering the NFL.
Known for his strong work ethic, Dodson has cited his family as an essential support system throughout his career. He praised his mother, Angela, brother, Tyrin, and girlfriend, Samantha, for their encouragement and support.
“This goes to show you that no matter where you start in life, you can finish it however you want,” Dodson said.
Brian Rector, the current athletic director at Centennial, was Dodson’s coach during his high school years, and he spoke highly of Dodson’s journey from a high school player to a starting linebacker in the NFL. “It’s really cool to see how he has fought every year to get where he is,” Rector said.
Local sports reporter Joe Williams highlighted Dodson’s commitment to his community, noting that despite facing many obstacles, he remained grounded and dedicated to giving back.
Dodson’s football journey began at Centennial, where he made a significant impact on the field, recording 111 tackles and rushing for 16 touchdowns during his senior year. His jersey retirement will take place during the first half of Friday’s game, marking a significant moment for the community and Dodson.
“He’s been a part of this community,” Rector said. “It’s great to see what he has accomplished with such a good head on his shoulders.”
