United Airlines Makes History with Inaugural Flight to Marrakech, Morocco

United Airlines has become the first U.S. airline to offer regular service to Morocco, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion. The inaugural flight, UA Flight 628, departed from Newark‘s Liberty International Airport and landed in Marrakech on Friday morning.

The flight was celebrated with festivities at Newark’s Terminal C, including traditional Moroccan cuisine, photo opportunities, and the distribution of commemorative items such as boarding passes, postcards, and luggage tags. Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of network planning and alliances, emphasized the historical significance of the flight, stating, “We’re making history”.

Marrakech, known for its bustling markets and high-end hotel sector, is a growing destination for U.S. travelers. The city’s allure, combined with its upcoming role as one of the hosts for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, made it a prime target for United’s new route. The airline will operate its “High J” Boeing 767-300ER on this route, featuring Polaris, Premium Plus, Economy Plus, and standard economy seats.

Upon arrival in Marrakech, passengers were greeted with a red carpet welcome, complete with music, dancing, and greetings from local dignitaries.
