Rick Bozich Sports Journalist Retirement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Renowned sports journalist Rick Bozich is retiring after 50 years of reporting on significant moments in sports. He announced his decision on Friday, stating he will step away from full-time journalism on July 1.

Bozich, who joined WDRB in 2012 after a distinguished career at The Louisville Courier-Journal and Louisville Times, has become a prominent figure in Louisville media. He has covered local and national sports, earning multiple recognitions including memberships in journalism halls of fame like the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.

“I’ve been blessed to do something I love for as long as I have,” Bozich remarked. He expressed gratitude for his experience at WDRB and the opportunity to work alongside colleague Eric Crawford. “Covering sports in Louisville, a city that treasures college basketball, has been a privilege,” he added.

Bozich’s career started in Indiana delivering his hometown Gary Post-Tribune and later led him to obtain a journalism degree from Indiana University in 1975. His extensive career includes coverage of 31 NCAA Final Fours, 15 Super Bowls, and three Summer Olympics.

Joining WDRB, Bozich expanded the station’s sports coverage and earned an Emmy Award for his contributions. “Rick helped define what sports journalism could look like in Louisville,” WDRB Vice President of News Barry Fulmer stated.

His work has appeared in notable publications like The New York Times and Sports Illustrated, and he has been a familiar voice on ESPN’s programs.

As he prepares to retire, Bozich plans to explore family time and personal projects while remaining a valued figure in both the journalism community and the public he served so well.
