Violence Erupts After Bronx Dominican Parade, Four Injured

GRAND CONCOURSE, The Bronx — A celebration of Dominican heritage in the Bronx took a dangerous turn on Sunday, as four people were injured in separate violent incidents following the Dominican Parade. The violence erupted just after 6 p.m. as crowds gathered along the Grand Concourse, leaving many in shock.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire, causing attendees to run in fear. Bronx resident Ashley Torres expressed her disbelief, stating, “It’s supposed to be a day where you have fun and celebrate your country, but then bad things happen. When are you gonna stop?”
According to police, the events unfolded within 90 minutes. First, a 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks near Elliott Place and Grand Concourse. Shortly after, a 19-year-old woman was struck in the ankle and a 19-year-old man was shot in the neck on East 170th Street.
In a separate incident, a 19-year-old man was stabbed in the hip near Grand Concourse and Marcy Place. All victims were transported to hospitals and are currently listed in stable condition.
The violence comes as New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently announced significant strides in the fight against gun violence, citing the removal of over 3,000 illegal firearms from the streets this year. “We are at the lowest number of shooting incidents and victims ever recorded in New York City,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.
However, some Bronx residents remain skeptical. Denise Scott stated, “The things he is saying are not true. There is more violence, there’s more guns in these streets than ever.” Similarly, Cordroy Charles commented on the outlook of crime, saying, “I don’t believe that there are that many differences from now compared to then when it comes to the way that crime occurs.”
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
