WIAA High School Football Playoffs Set to Begin with Intense Matchups
MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAW) – The excitement builds as the Wisconsin high school football playoffs kick off on October 24. With 224 teams set to compete across seven divisions, fans can expect thrilling matchups as teams vie for state glory.
Highlighting the final week of the regular season, Marshfield secured a dramatic victory over SPASH, winning 32-30. Despite a late touchdown by SPASH, Marshfield’s Aaron Ongna kicked a game-winning field goal with just 17 seconds left on the clock, sealing the game with an interception on the ensuing drive. Marshfield finished the season with a record of 5-4 overall, including 5-1 in conference play, while SPASH also concluded with a 5-4 record, 3-3 in conference.
In other notable games, Everest clinched the Valley crown with a decisive 43-7 victory over Eau Claire Memorial. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Rapids was edged out by Eau Claire North, finishing their season with a 35-28 loss.
In the Marawood Conference, Edgar dominated Abbotsford with a 28-0 win, completing the regular season undefeated at 9-0. Pittsville kept their playoff hopes alive, defeating Pacelli 28-14.
The Great Northern Conference saw Mosinee and Tomahawk both clinch a share of the title. Mosinee triumphed over Medford 48-14, while Tomahawk won 27-13 against Lakeland. Merrill ended their season on a high note, beating Rhinelander 27-13, and Wausau East recorded an emphatic 42-0 win over Antigo.
In the Central Wisconsin Conference, Stratford shut out Loyal/Greenwood 50-0 to clinch the CWC-Large title, while Spencer/Columbus edged Marathon 14-6. Colby lost a close game to Weyauwega-Fremont, finishing 22-14.
As the playoff action begins next week, fans can look forward to electrifying games and top-tier talent on display. Teams will battle for distinguished spots, aiming for a chance to compete at Camp Randall Stadium on November 20-21.
