In a bold political statement, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has predicted defeat for Senator Ireti Kingibe in the upcoming 2027 election. The declaration was made during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the Mabushi bus terminal in Abuja. Wike emphasized that Kingibe, the current senator representing Abuja, would not be reelected based on her past performance.

During his address, Wike challenged Kingibe’s accomplishments as a legislator, questioning the bills she has sponsored to improve education and healthcare in Abuja. The FCT Minister underscored the need for genuine commitment to public service, hinting at a lack of progress in critical sectors under Kingibe’s representation. Wike’s comments indicated a clear rift between himself and the senator.

Senator Ireti Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party (LP), secured victory over Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election. Aduda, a close ally of Wike, had previously held the senatorial position. The tension between Wike and Kingibe escalated due to alleged marginalization and differences in their political agendas.

Wike and Kingibe’s strained relationship has been marked by public disputes and accusations. Kingibe has accused Wike of neglecting her as the FCT senator and sidelining her from key decision-making processes. The ongoing feud between the two politicians has been a subject of controversy in Abuja’s political circles.

Highlighting the power dynamics at play, Kingibe has criticized Wike for what she perceives as a lack of responsiveness to critical issues facing Abuja, such as security and water scarcity. The senator’s discontent with Wike’s administration has led to a series of clashes, reflecting a growing divide within the FCT political landscape.
