Brisbane Lions Vs Gws Giants 2024

In an exhilarating semifinal match, Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan praised 20-year-old Will Ashcroft for his outstanding self-inspired performance. Ashcroft played a crucial role in leading his team to an unforgettable comeback victory against the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Giants.

Despite trailing by 44 points in the third quarter, the Brisbane Lions managed to secure a remarkable five-point win on the Giants’ home ground in Sydney, thereby eliminating them from the finals race. Central to the celebration was Ashcroft, who delivered an impressive 27 disposals, nine clearances, five tackles, and gained 466 meters, significantly contributing to the Lions’ surge during the third and final quarters.

Fagan, speaking to Channel 7 post-match, commended Ashcroft’s ability to “sense the moment” and elevate his game. “We had to make a few changes because we weren’t looking good, but Ashcroft played an amazing game,” Fagan mentioned. “He’s such a good player, and I reckon he sensed the moment and just lifted, so well done to him.”

The match also saw a crucial performance from Joe Daniher, known for his inconsistent goal-kicking throughout the season. However, Daniher rose to the occasion by scoring the last two goals of the match, including a difficult shot from the pocket. “Funnily enough, I reckon Joey really likes pressure, so I wasn’t surprised when he kicked it,” Fagan remarked about Daniher’s pivotal contribution.

Fagan expressed immense pride and joy in his team’s resilience and ability to overcome a formidable opponent. “I’m massively proud because this was a tough task tonight with the Giants being a great team all year,” Fagan stated. “Playing them on their home ground, they’re an experienced and talented side, so to find a way is just amazing.”

The coach highlighted the significance of the victory, urging his players to keep pushing through difficult moments. “I just appealed to the boys to keep having a crack,” Fagan added. “It’s one of those days in footy you will never forget.”
