Willie Nelson Releases New Album and Reflects on Career, Legacy, and Late Friend Kris Kristofferson
At the age of 91, music legend Willie Nelson is set to release his second studio album of the year, titled “Last Leaf on the Tree.” This album marks Nelson’s 76th solo project and the 153rd album in his extensive catalog. In an interview, Nelson expressed his ongoing passion for music, stating, ‘I hope there are a few more’ albums in his future, even joking about the possibility of reaching 200 albums.
Nelson’s latest album delves into themes of love and mortality, subjects he is well-acquainted with. Despite his advanced age, Nelson remains optimistic and healthy, taking good care of himself and feeling physically fit. He reflects on his legacy, saying, ‘I had a great time. And I accomplished what I set out to do: create music’.
The album’s title, “Last Leaf on the Tree,” holds a poignant significance for Nelson, who is now the last surviving member of the Highwaymen, a group that included Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. Nelson recently lost his friend and bandmate Kris Kristofferson, who passed away last month at the age of 88. Nelson remembered Kristofferson as ‘an exceptional songwriter’ and a dear friend with whom he shared many musical and personal experiences.
In addition to his music, Nelson and his wife Annie are set to publish a cannabis cookbook, a project inspired by Annie’s efforts to help Willie manage his health issues through edible cannabis products. The cookbook is a natural extension of their long-standing belief in the medicinal benefits of both cannabis and food.
