Yankees Face Third Base Dilemma After Cabrera Injury

NEW YORK, NY – The New York Yankees are grappling with significant injury challenges this season, now worsened by the loss of third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera. Cabrera suffered a serious ankle injury during a recent series against the Seattle Mariners, prompting questions about the team’s options at the hot corner.
The Yankees have already navigated injuries to key players like Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton, and Jazz Chisholm Jr., yet they managed to hold onto first place in their division. However, with Cabrera out for an extended period due to his injury, the club will need to make strategic moves to maintain their competitive edge.
DJ LeMahieu has been slotted as the immediate replacement for Cabrera, but his history of injuries raises concerns about his ability to stay healthy throughout the season. “Considering LeMahieu’s and Chisholm Jr.’s injury histories, New York could be in the market to trade for a third baseman,” said sports analyst Matt Grazel.
Grazel suggested that the Yankees might explore a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, proposing a deal that would send reliever Ian Hamilton along with prospects Everson Pereira and Carlos Lagrange to acquire All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm. Bohm’s future with the Phillies has been uncertain following persistent trade rumors.
“After a second-half slump last summer, Bohm’s performance has dwindled. He’s been placed at the bottom of the batting order and has missed several games,” Grazel noted. “The Phillies appeared willing to trade him this past winter, indicating they are looking for the right deal.”
As the Yankees assess their options, they may find that a trade for Bohm could be the solution they need to fortify their lineup amidst mounting injuries.
